
Muslim Ummah advocates for skills, agriculture to address youth crime

The National Chairman of the Muslim Ummah, Prof. Muhammad Babangida, has called on all tiers of government to prioritize agriculture and skills acquisition as a means to curb the growing involvement of youths in nefarious activities across the country.
He made this call on Saturday during the 27th National Ummah Convention, organized by the National Islamic Center in Bauchi.
Babangida highlighted that in its over five decades of existence, the Muslim Ummah has remained committed to promoting unity, good governance, and national cohesion.
“While expressing concern over Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation, he emphasized the urgent need for proactive measures to engage the youth productively,” he said.
He also noted that the National Islamic Center, Zaria, established in 1980 by members of the Muslim Students Society, serves as a platform for continued community service after formal education.
Also speaking, Former Governor of Kano State , Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau, urged Muslims not to relent in contributing to national development despite prevailing challenges.
He advised Nigerians to vote for leaders of proven integrity, remarking, “Vote for good leaders even if they come from the Devil’s party.”
The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Adamu, represented by Galadiman Bauchi, Surveyor Sa’idu Ibrahim Jahun, acknowledged the social and economic difficulties facing Nigeria.
He advocated for comprehensive measures by state and local governments to tackle youth unemployment through skill acquisition initiatives.
In remarks, Gov. Bala Mohammed, of Bauchi State, represented by his deputy, Awwal Jatau, assured participants that outcomes from the forum would be integrated into the state’s policy framework.
He stressed the need for community-driven guidance and support for the youth, noting that Nigeria’s challenges are collective and require joint efforts to overcome.
Other notable speakers at the event included Malam Kabir Abdullahi Yusuf, Chairman of Media Trust, and Prof. Sa’id Ahmad Dukawa of Bayero University, Kano, among others.
