United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has charged Adamawa Government and education stakeholders on sustainability of its programme for educational development at the basic level in Adamawa.

Mr AbdulRahman Ado, Education Specialist, UNICE Bauchi Field Office, made the call at the media dialogue in Yola on Thursday.

He said UNICEF has implemented projects aimed at boosting basic education in the state including Girls for Girls (G4G), Teaching at the Right Level (TaRl) among others.

According to him, such projects need to be replicated and sustained for children to be educated for a brighter future.

He further urged journalists to be committed in sensitising parents on the importance of enrolling their children in school and keeping watch over them to the end.

Dr Garba Pella, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, said government was currently spending much on insecurity for failing to invest in education in the past.

He called on parents to educate their children to fight poverty and crime in the society.

“The state government is committed to improving education sector that is why basic education is free and remains first, second and third priority of the administration,” he said.

The Commissioner noted that for sustainability, some projects that were implemented by partners in four Local government areas of the state were now being replicated across 21 LGAs because of their impact on basic education.

Opeyemi Olagunju, Communications Officer, UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, appreciated the media for their contribution on educating the public and urged them to redouble their efforts.

He said the dialogue had brought together education stakeholders, and community leaders to explore strategies for enhancing foundational learning for the children.

The stakeholders thereafter, embarked on field trips to Gombi LGA to observe programmes implementation and improve learning outcomes.
