Tumsah dismisses withdrawal rumour, insists on Yobe APC governorship ambition

Kashim Tumsah has dismissed reports alleging that he withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship race in Yobe State ahead of the party’s primary election.
Tumsah described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that he remained fully in the contest and committed to pursuing his ambition through democratic means.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Campaign Media Directorate of his governorship organisation, the aspirant said rumours of his withdrawal did not reflect his position on the forthcoming APC governorship primaries.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Kashim Musa Tumsah remains a bona fide aspirant in the race and continues to pursue his aspiration with commitment, courage and faith in the democratic process,” the statement said.
Tumsah, who was among members of the G-6 bloc of APC governorship aspirants opposing the endorsement of a consensus candidate in the state, reiterated his support for direct primaries in line with the Electoral Act and APC guidelines.
The statement noted that his participation in the race was driven by the need to protect internal democracy, fairness and due process within the party.
“He remains resolute and determined to continue the struggle for what is right until justice is done,” the statement added.
The aspirant called on his supporters and political associates across Yobe to remain calm, peaceful and loyal to the APC despite ongoing political developments within the party.
He assured them of his determination to pursue the contest responsibly and democratically until the end of the process.
Tumsah also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC officials and security agencies to ensure transparency, fairness and credibility during the forthcoming governorship primaries.
According to him, adherence to democratic principles would strengthen the APC and improve its chances in the 2027 general elections in Yobe State.
